Imran Khan plays the role of Sriram Venkat, who has just returned from the U.S after studying architecture. A take-it-easy kind of guy, Sriram is more inclined to having fun than to anything else. He falls in love with Dia Sharma (played by Kareena Kapoor) and their love story will be a narrative by Sriram as he tries to tell about his ex-girlfriend to Vasudha (played by Shraddha Kapoor), who is introduced to Sriram by his family for marriage. Vasudha declines the proposal as she is already in love with a Punjabi guy, a social worker.
Dia is a socially sound individual with strong opinions about rural development. She foresees change in the world and tries hard to make it true. The relationship between Dia and Sriram spark instantly, but soon begins to fade out as their opinion, views and ideologies clash! They become separated and Dia goes on her way to a village in Gujarat called Jhumli, making an effort to help the villagers.
Sriram visits the village and persuades that Dia come with him. She refuses and he knows that helping the villagers solve their problem is only way of winning her back. Does he succeed?
